PICKLEBALL LADDER LEAGUE
Wednesday evenings
6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
6 week sessions
MAX: 44 PLAYERS
RULES
I. LEAGUE/REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Each player must be a member in good standing at SSPC.
II. LEAGUE FORMAT
The format of play is designed so that players play mostly with others of similar skill levels. Your ranking on a ladder is based upon the following formula:
1 pt. - for each point earned in a game
0.5 pt - game won
-
Players will move up or down the ladder based upon the total points they obtain.
-
Each week, players will be placed in groups of 4 in order of their rankings on the ladder for match play. The 4 players will play a round robin format, so that everyone on the court has been paired with everyone else after the three matches.
-
Matches will be 2 games straight and will be played to 11 points (win by 1). You will then rotate partners for a total of 6 games per week (3 matches of 2 games).
-
The total points scored for each player are totalled at the end of the night. The player with the most points in each foursome will move up a court the following week (or stay if they are on Court #1), and the player in each foursome with the least points moves down a court the following week (or stay if they are on the lowest court). The 2nd and 3rd place players in each foursome stay on the same court the following week.
-
If the 1st and/or 4th place players in the weekly round robin are tied after all the matches, the tie will be broken using the following method:
1. Results of head to head play (the total points scored from the 2 matches that the tied players did not play together)
2. If still tied, a coin toss will determine the winner
-
1 Ball per court will be provided for games (Core Balls). Please bring other balls for warm up.
III. PLAYING SCHEDULE
All games will begin at 6:00 pm on Wednesday night each week from June 18 - Sept. 3. The player and court assignments will change weekly. The playing schedule will be emailed to each participant and published on the website (https://saugeenshorespickleball.com) on Sunday Night each week.
Your starting position in the ladder will be based on your ranking and the convenors knowledge of your level of play.
IV. WHAT IF I CAN’T PLAY?
Please find a sub to take your position. The subs results will count towards your standing in the ladder. The list of subs is available on the website (https://saugeenshorespickleball.com).
SUBS MUST BE OF AN EQUAL OR LOWER LEVEL THAN YOU. If you have to secure a sub that has a higher rank than you, you will not be eligible to move up a Tier if the sub finishes in first place in the pool. The 2nd place finisher in the pool will move up and you will remain in the same pool the following week. However, If the higher ranked sub finishes last in the pool, you will move down the following week.
Player Missing at Match Time: If there is a player missing at match time, we hope to have a sub present each week to fill in. If no sub is present/available, play will continue and scores will be recorded as 11-5, 11-5 for the team with both players present. However, the “No-Show” player will earn 0 points for the night.
IX. RECORDING SCORES
After your games have been played, players record their scores on the score sheet provided on-court (there will be a clipboard hanging from the fence on each court). The winning team will be responsible to fill out the score sheet and drop it in the Scoresheet Box located on the deck of the court-house. The total points scored for all games will be recorded as your weekly score. If you are playing on a court with 4 players, there is a maximum of 69 possible points [11 points possible x 6 games (66 pts) + .5 points per games won (max 3 pts)].
The calculation of rankings will be managed by the League Director and will be posted on the website and emailed out to members on Sunday evenings.
X. INTERRUPTION OF A MATCH
Scoring for interrupted matches due to weather or injury should be recorded as follows:
1. If the match is terminated before the start of the second match, scores should not be recorded and we will try to reschedule.
2. If the match is terminated sometime during the second match, points for the second game will be assumed to be the same difference in the score up to that point. For example, if the score was 7 to 5 at termination, the winning team would get 11 and the losing team would get 9 (+4 pts. each).
3. Points scored should be recorded for each player.
XI. NO SHOWS
If a player is a “No Show” (leaving three players without a match), and has failed to notify the convenor the offending player shall be suspended from the league as follows:
-
First Offense: 1 week suspension
-
Second Offense: 2 week suspension
-
Third Offense: Suspended from the league for the remainder of the season
